| The Lewis County Survey of the
Community was presented to the public on March 29th, 2008 and is now
available for viewing. The survey was conducted during October, 2007
and was designed to obtain a statistical analysis of quality of life issues in
Lewis County. The assessment was facilitated by the Center for Community Studies at Jefferson Community
College, and utilized Jefferson Community College students who contacted randomly selected
households throughout Lewis County by telephone.
At the public presentation, held at Beaver River Central School, Joel LaLone,
Research Coordinator at the Center for Community Studies, provided an
overview of the methodology used in conducting the survey.
According to the released survey, 2,000 personal residence telephone numbers
were randomly selected from the population of approximately 10,000 personal
residence telephone numbers in Lewis County. From this initial list,
the numbers were randomly sorted to create a second list of 1,621
residential numbers to contact for the interview. Of those contacted,
409 adults chose to participate in the survey.
Opportunities extends its appreciation to Community Bank, NA., Pratt Northam Foundation, and Otis
Technology for their generous contributions in underwriting the cost of the
survey. Opportunities also extends its appreciation to all
of the county residents who talked with the JCC students and shared their
opinions on various quality of life topics in Lewis County.
